Bank Restoration

Poorly constructed steep banks causes soil to erode and eventually slip into the water.

Exposed or poorly constructed steep embankments can sometimes cause issues around your lake in the form of erosion or the undercutting of the bank edge. This is commonly caused by wind and wave erosion slowly washing away the soil structure and can eventually cause large segments of the embankment to give way or at the very least start warping your bank edges making certain areas of your lake look unsightly and possibly dangerous. Sections of embankment falling into the water will also increase suspended solids and will affect water quality.

A lighter gradient and some thoughtful planting would have stopped this island disappearing into the pond.

There are many things that we can do to help combat this, from re-profiling the banks to make a better gradient and planting specific species of marginal plants to implementing full coir mats to help tie in plant roots and hold fine soil structures together. It is a relatively easy fix and once done correctly should last a very long time.

We also offer peg construction, these can be as simple or as elaborate as you like and include timber framed (sleepers or other) gravel or mulched.
